If you don't think your pump is priming, you could make sure you have good battery charge, and then disconnect the negative terminal briefly to reset the electronics. Then lock and unlock the doors to see if the pump primes. As jcolley said, your SMG will not budge without hydraulics.

The M6 may have slightly more problems than the 650i because it is a more complicated car, but an 07 should have most issues worked out. Overall, I find the M6 to be way more exciting (650i is still a great car, but a little soft IMO), and if you find you enjoy the SMG and can accept the poor MPGs, I would go for it! Pull the window switch up past the resistence point and hold it there. The window will roll up, then back down and then up again. It goes up almost all the way and if you continue to hold the switch up it will ease up the last little bit until it's fully closed. It's the "pinch protection" that's causing it to roll back down half way.

Next is have the SMG system tests performed using DIS (GT1) or ISTA. There is an SMG pump pressurization time test and an accumulator leak-down test.
