Like u/liluzibrap, I also didn't understand how console aim assists works (I'm a PC player). Aim assist doesn't auto-aim like I assumed at first. It gently adjusts sensitivity. It creates a zone over the player where the sensitivity decreases when your crosshair enters. Controller players are at a huge disadvantage, even with Aim Assist.
